Station improvements
As one of the best connected towns in the UK, Ashford's railway
station is the welcome point for thousands of commuters and
visitors every day.
To ensure everyone who arrives in Ashford gets a worthy
welcome, a series of improvements are under way to give Ashford the
kind of station a town served by a high speed rail link
deserves.
Initial changes to the forecourt and passenger facilities including
extending the booking hall, a new cafe and improved lighting,
toilets and platform waiting areas were completed in December.
The final phase of works include a stunning public square with
new seating, landscaping and walkways and better access for
cyclists and pedestrians.
The improvements will mirror the quality and design of other
exciting changes that have already taken place or are planned for
the town to further promote Ashford as best placed in
Britain.
Optimum Consultancy has been appointed as project managers and
Gillespies as landscape designers.
The £2.5m improvements are being paid for through government’s
Growth Area Funding as part of a programme of projects coordinated
by Ashford’s Future.
