River Quality

Improving water quality in the Stour catchment is a high priority for Ashford. The Ashford Integrated Water Strategy outlines actions to:

  • Protect biodiversity from poor river water quality
  • Encourage river corridors and floodplains to be used for habitat conservation
  • Manage flood risk and encourage the provision of areas for recreation

The flourishing River Stour is already home to important species such as brown trout, salmon, otter and water vole. The strategy aims to protect these different species and their habitats from potential reduction in water quality from treated wastewater, urban runoff and pollution incidents.
