Station of the Year
Ashford International Station has scooped a top national award
for improving cycling provision after it was crowned the Station of
the Year at the National Cycle Rail Awards 2010.
The judges said: “Ashford’s focus on increasing cycle parking
capacity, ensuring security and determined efforts to improve
cycling and promote more sustainable travel options for commuters,
meant their bid was a clear cut winner.”
Visitors to Ashford International are now greeted by a bigger,
brighter and better station follow the completion of works to
revamp the station forecourt.
The £2.4 million improvements funded by Southeastern and
Ashford’s Future include a larger booking hall, a new coffee bar
and seating area, and improved lighting on the station
concourse.
A further phase of works to improve access to and the appearance
of the station area will begin in the spring.
Optimum Consultancy will be consulting on the initial designs in
mid March.
