New Road Plans

There are a number of new roads proposed to support the town's expansion:

Victoria Way

A new route to the south of the town centre linking the A2042 Romney Marsh Road to the A28 Chart Road, taking ‘through traffic’ away from the town, and supporting a complete transformation of the inner ring road and new developments as part of the town centre’s expansion. The scheme has been shortlisted for Government funding.

Orchard Way

A new route through the centre of the three proposed urban villages to the south of the town between M20 junction 10a to the east and the A28 to the south west.

Newtown Way

A new route provided through the proposed redevelopment of Newtown Railway works, improvements to the existing Newtown Road Railway bridge and Crowbridge Road, and a new dedicated bus link under the A2070, will link the town centre with developments to the south east, and support the proposed SMARTLINK public transport scheme and Park and Ride services.

Roman Way

A new route connecting existing development to the south of the town with the proposed Chilmington Green urban village, then extending to the east of Romney Marsh Road as a walkway and cycleway along the route of the former Roman Road.

Kennington Way

A new route connecting the existing A28 Canterbury Road to the north of Kennington with the A251 Faversham Road at Trinity Road junction to support the proposed Kennington north development area and take some through traffic away from the A28 through Kennington/Bybrook.
